Reward Bravery.

Helping children find courage by offering rewards for bravery.

Because Hospital Stays are hard enough…

As a parent, watching your child endure medical procedures you know are necessary but that your child is fearful of is one of the most difficult thing to endure. Sometimes the fear is a result of previous experiences and knowing there is some pain involved. Sometimes the fear is of the unknown. With our son Andrew, we found that by providing physical incentives and rewards, he was more cooperative and willing to allow the staff to perform their normal day to day tasks like flushing his IV, administering medications, and remaining calm through imaging procedures. Every child endures a hospital stay differently. We hope to help families and staff by providing incentives and rewards for any child regardless of the fears they are being asked to walk through.

What does a Bravery Box look like?

Small sturdy bins on wheels measuring approximately 23-5/12" wide x 15-1/6" deep x 12-5/12" high with a lid held securely in place. Currently, our partners make these bins available on floors where patients stay multiple nights for procedures. Nurses and families can bring the bins to a child’s room, or use it as an encouragement to go for a walk.

Positive Rewards mean Positive Results…

Each patient will have unique fears and reservations about procedures in the hospital. Staff and families are encouraged to use the Bravery Box however they can to make a child’s hospital stay easier. Some children may need more incentives than others and that is OK! Because so many of these children will have repeated procedures and multiple hospitalizations, any positive association we can create for these patients will also help make future visits less stressful all around.
